Tips for using Vinegar for Wintertime Chores

Posted on December 28 2015

Here are a few tips for using White Vinegar to make some wintertime chores a bit easier!

First of all, did you receive a new pair of jeans for Christmas??? If so, wash them in cold water with 1 cup of white vinegar. DO NOT ADD DETERGENT OR FABRIC SOFTENER. Wash and dry as usual. The vinegar will help seal the color into your jeans and make the color less likely to bleed or fade in future washings. Also, if you turn your dark colored jeans inside out every time that you wash them, that will also help retain the color longer. You can also try our All Natural Laundry Butter for your laundry. It will help your fabrics last much longer than with using a harsh detergent and you don't need a stain stick or fabric softener when using our Laundry Butter. P.S. Did you know that commercial fabric softener is one of the most dangerous items in your home. You should read about it!!

Help keep your car's windshield frost free in the colder months by mixing 3 parts vinegar with 1 part water and wiping down your windshield and car windows with this mixture. Pour the ingredients into a spray bottle, spray your windows and wipe off the mixture with paper towels. Also, if you wipe off your wiper blades with vinegar they will last longer.

Bringing fresh flowers into your home during the cold winter months can help lift your spirits. Our favorite place to buy fresh flower arrangements is one of our retailers, Blooms by Essential Designs in LaGrange, Kentucky. To keep your flowers fresher longer, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar into the water in your vase and gently mix it well. The vinegar will help inhibit the growth of bacteria and keep your flowers fresher longer.

I don't know about you, but we love a fire in our fireplace on a cold, winter day and our brick hearth gets extremely dirty. To clean the soot off of a brick fireplace easily, mix 50/50 water and vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the bricks generously and let the mixture set for a few minutes. Use an old rag or sponge to scrub the soot right off.

Our last tip is mainly for our female readers. Did you know that if you wipe your fingernails with vinegar before applying fingernail polish that you polish will last longer?? Certainly sometime to try, it works great!!

I hope that everyone has a great week and Happy New Year!!
